60-Seconds, Andrew Nembhard
6'5" - 191 lbs
A true point guard, Nembhard has excellent vision and is a fantastic facilitator for those around him. He's one of the smartest and best pure passers in the country, as he recorded a 32.8 AST% as a freshman.
Athleticism/Offense: He's got good size for his position at 6'5 and is a fluid athlete, but he lacks some explosiveness which really limits him on the attack. Nembhard has really good body control and his agile in the paint, but the lack of verticality on finishes is a cause for concern at the next level. He's a reliable and clutch player as a young guy, ready to step up in the big moments.
An excellent ball handler & capable shooter, he's fundamentally sound and his decisions are good. In 2018 he shot 34% from three & 76% from the free throw line, but I hope to see those rise a bit in year 2. Nembhard isn't going to be your leading scorer in college or at the professional level, but man can he distribute. Check out these Synergy percentiles:
He sees the floor exceptionally well and is always looking for the open man. His high basketball IQ is constantly on display in both the half court & transition; I love that he rarely seems rushed or hurried into a decision. At the next level he can be your coach's best friend: the floor general you can trust to facilitate and make good decisions with the ball. Surrounding him with talented shooters will be key to getting the most out of Nembhard at the next level.
Defense: Nembhard provides solid activity on the defensive end by keeping his head up and anticipating passing lanes really well. He has really strong feel for the game, but at times the execution can lack. He ranked 26th percentile in PnR defense allowing 1.02 PPP, which will need to be cleaned up. Synergy numbers reflect that when put in PnR, dribbling off of it and/or driving to the basket is where his man can score.
He does, however, defend spot up shooting well, ranking in the 90th percentile. Even with an average wingspan, his contests are good and he competes with effort which helps him overcome this at times. He's an engaged defender, so even when the numbers don't show too much to ride home about, you can trust that the effort and intangibles are there.
Nembhard was invited to the 2019 G-League Elite Camp & recently voted to the 2020 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Preseason Watch List.
His intelligence and feel for the game are unquestioned; If he can add to his scoring versatility and keep up his defensive intensity, we should see him test the Draft waters again and possibly slide into the end of the 2nd Round.
