Ąžuolas TUBELIS (LIT)
Power Forward, 6'9
GAME: FIBA U18 Europe Championships
BODY/ATHLETICISM: Lean, strong 6’9” for his age. Runs the floor really well. Doesn’t appear to have a great vertical at this point so that will need to be developed. Long arms and looks like he has a strong lower body when boxing out. Questionable lateral movement, but his length allows him to recover when needed.
SHOOTING: Majority of his shots come within the restricted area, with the occasional 3PT attempt. His 3PT shot is neither pretty, nor effective. He brings the ball back behind the top of his head and has an extremely high release point, I doubt he can see the ball when he releases.
POSITION OFFENSE: Welcomes physicality in post-ups, where most of his touches come. Elevates and finishes well at the rim, in half court and transition. Uses his length well at the rim, sometimes his vertical becomes and issue among taller/longer players but I believe that can be fixed. Crafty and effective scorer in the post which I believe is translatable to the next level. He also likes to take his defender off the dribble. Ballhandling is average, but often finds a way past & over the defender for a layup.
DEFENSE/REBOUNDING: Always willing to meet at the rim. Sometimes it leads to fouls and opponent free throws, but he is aggressive and appears to have a “don’t let him score” mentality which is nice. Vertical jump is lacking, but he rebounds well due to strong box-outs and length. Greece was a terrific showing for these: 20 REB & 7 BLK in the contest.
MISCELLANEOUS: Aggressive in just about every aspect.
OVERALL RATING: High-Major Division 1, Possible NBA/GLeague potential. Big, strong, athletic kid who I can certainly play at the next level. Needs to work on his shooting very badly, but the ability to rebound, defend, & finish at the rim will translate.
